Oxnard, CA (10.02.12) – OEM Integration is just as prevalent—if not more so—than audio system makeovers these days, as vehicle owners look to add capabilities rather than replace. One of the most popular additions is low-frequency sound, but it comes with a particular set of difficulties: Bass means larger speakers, and larger speakers mean taking up space intended for storage – not to mention space for the amplifier needed to power the woofer.
Boss Audio Systems, a division of Oxnard, Calif.-based Boss International Group (BIG), is marketing a unique solution to this problem: a low-profile, amplified subwoofer that doesn’t need a large enclosure because it’s got one of its own. The RS80 features an 8-inch driver in a fully enclosed circular casing that is less than 3.5 inches deep, making it an ideal fit for any vehicle with space limitations.
“We designed the RS80 to be the most versatile bass solution on the market,” said Doug Kern, executive director of sales and marketing for BIG. “Its thin presentation allows it to fit under seats, and the fact that it carries its own enclosure assures quality sound from any mounting location.”
Intended as the ideal add-on for a factory or aftermarket radio, the RS80 features both speaker-level and low-level (RCA-style) inputs that feed its internal amplifier, which is capable of 400 watts RMS or 800 watts max power. To match its audio frequency and level with the rest of the system, the unit includes built-in subsonic and low-pass filters, variable bass boost from 0 to 12dB, and a phase selector switch. The power center of the RS80 is protected against thermal overload and power short with power circuits that utilize green and red LEDs to indicate status. In addition, the system includes a special circuit to ensure a “soft” turn on and turn off.
Externally, the RS80 can be mounted to a flat surface using adhesive tape, or four included attachable legs enable bolting to a floor or side panel.
Suggested retail price for the RS80 is $299, excluding installation. For more, visit www.bossaudio.com, or find BossInternationalGroup on Facebook.
