I own a 2012 Silverado WT with the most basic AM-FM stereo factory radio. Since there's no CD player or AUX input, all I wanted was the ability to listen to Pandora on long trips. Now in the old days, you'd go get a good aftermarket head unit/ all in one radio, a mount kit and a wiring harness adapter and swap. The problem today, is that your 'radio' is a lot more than just an entertainment device- it's part of the vehicle's overall computer system and the display is used for operating diagnostics. To go aftermarket now includes a data adapter and usually headaches,
This brings us to the BOSS FM20- A metal box slightly smaller than a box of cigarettes with only a few wires. There's a +12VDC wire that goes to your switched "ACC" power, a -12VDC ground, a short antenna wire and 2 RCA female connectors for low power audio input. Find a vacant FM frequency, program it into your radio, set the 4 DIP switches on the box (note switch positions!) do your electrical work and... Read more

I'm happy with it. However, I don't think the unit puts out 1 watt as listed. 60 feet maybe if walls are not in the way. It works pretty good throughout my 1000 sq ft house with some fading depending which way I tilt my receiver. So if you only need to transmit within 40 feet in a house of walls, this unit will be fine.

This unit is really intended for car use, which will work perfect for in that application, hence the 12v power requirement.
Cant beat it for under $20.00

Picked this up last week so I could use my iPod in my 02 Buick rendezvous. I looked at a lot of in-line FM modulators as well, but I eventually decided to get this because I didn't want to take my dash apart. The installation was easy; I just spliced into the wires going to the cigarette lighter and ran an RCA-to-3.5mm cable to my center console. The sound comes in very clear; not clear for the money I spent, I mean crystal. There's no sign of alternator whine or radio interference either, so I didn't need a ground loop isolator. The only thing extra I did do was put an inline switch so the unit wouldn't be on the whole time, but that's only because I tapped into a non-switched circuit. I may add an inline amplifier to boost the sound signal from my iPod a bit, but that's very common to find on any FM modulator install, and it still sounds good without it. I had my reservations at first, but the Boss fm20 put them to rest. If you have an older car and want to put in an aux port... Read more
